Is South Africa hosting the Soccer World Cup 2010 going to be a success?

I am doing research on the news the media is portraying of South Africa around the world. I need to find out whether that news will have a detrimental effect on SA hosting the World Cup 2010 and if the obstacles hindering South Africa’s development (such as crime) deter prospective visitors?

I don’t think anything will deter prospective visitors – sad as it is – purely becuause people are so dedicated to the sport.
I would very much like to think however that such a prestigious comepetiton in such a deprived part of the world may aid its development and draw more attention to the struggle it is undergoing.

Many people seem to forget that South Africa has already held 2 extremely successful world cups already, sure soccer is bigger than rugby and cricket, but I see no reason why it wont be a resounding success. Already stadiums are being built and upgraded, transport systems improved etc. Judging by South Africas current tourism boom people dont seem to be deterred too much.

yes it will be a success.

When this country realises what hosting this world cup will entail and pulls together it will be a roaring success.

The crime will not be an issue because the police force, the military and the hundreds of security personal will all be working together.
