Why do Mexicans always talk about Mexico going so far at the 2010 World Cup?
I always see so many questions on here about that. People say that they will finish 1st in the group, advance to the quarter-finals for sure and probably even go farther than that. But where exactly do they take this confidence from?
So let’s just take a look at the following things:
1) Mexico can’t even finish 1st in the CONCACAF group and has the following record against the US since 2000
10 losses
4 wins
2 draws
2) Mexico has not made it to a quarter-final for almost 24 years now!!! The last time they made it was at home in 1986 and they lost to a German side that was 1 man down for most of the match. For some reason they still managed to lose that game at home even though they had the extra man for most of the game.
3) Mexico blew games in the 2nd round before even though they finished first in the group before. In 1994 they lost to Bulgaria and in 2002 we beat them clearly 2-0.
4) In 2006 they barely managed to get 4 points in the group and produced a 0-0 tie against Angola. True, they did pull off one good game against Argentina in the 2nd round, but ultimately they still lost to the two top teams they faced in the tournament, Argentina and Portugal.
So why exactly do Mexican fans believe they will make it that far in the next World Cup? To me France and Uruguay are both stronger. If they make it out of that group (they have a chance), then they will most likely go out in the next round.
We already beat Aguirre at the 2002 World Cup to advance to the quarter-final.

since 2000 most games played have been in U.S.
At least we beat U.S at home. They managed one draw at Azteca once.
Mexico will go to the quarter finals because Mexico can easily beat South Africa and Uruguay. France will be the only challenge. Mexico has a great team and the young people that are playing(Dos Santos) Vela etc.) is the generation that won the 2005 U-17 World Cup. Mexico has Cuahtemoc Blanco, Gio,Vela,Juarez,Ochoa,Guardado,Torrado,Nery,Franco. We have a good chance also because South africa is really high level. So it will be like playing at Azteca without Mexicans.

the way Mexico is in RIGHT NOW they are showing that they can do good in the WC, they arent the same players from 2002 or fuc*ing 1986, the USA defeats are since 2000 what about the years before? Mexico lost to USA in USA’s home,Mexico won in their home and Mexico beat USA in the Gold Cup and won. You cant win everytime, just ask Brasil stupid a*s

1. 1994 Bulgaria Made it to the Semifinals….that was a great team that beat Mexico in PK’s..but you are a soccer mom/dad and know nothing.
2. Uruguay lost to Mexico in South America 3-1…so how is Uruguay Stronger?
3. France got killed in the 08 Euro and had to cheat in a playoff in order to qualify..how is France stronger?
4. Mexico after Aguirre became coach;

-Beat Costa Rica in Saprissa in a WCQ 3-0

-Lost at home to Mexico 5-0 and helped Mexico start their winning streak and the youngsters gain confidence..thank you for the boost

-Lost to Costa Rica 3-1
-Bearly beat El Salvador at home 2-1
-Win at Honduras 3-2 yay a bright spot
-Tied against Costa Rica at home 2-2 LOL!!!!! way to honor Davies.
You sound new to this sport…so I can understand the confusion. Go back to watching American Football and Baseball…simple sports for a simple mind.

you can talk about the past all you want, but the fact is that the present is what matters now and I hope you know that in the last 6months or ever since Aguirre took over Mexico has been a completely different team, so far they’ve gone 11W 3T 2L with 35 Goals in Favor and only 11 Against. That’s a whole lot better then the U.S. 10W 1T 8L with 33 Goals For and 32 Against. anyways now that you know this which is the best team and which has the best chance of advancing past groups?
