THIS VIDEO IS PROPERTY OF TELEVISION NEW ZEALAND www.tvnz.co.nz – PROUD TO BE FROM NZ!!! Read on for the synopsis… [NOTE RE: COMMENTS: If you have nothing positive to say then don't say it. Any negative comments pertaining to any matters outside of the RWC or this video will be removed. Please keep it clean for younger audiences. Thank you.] SYNOPSIS: The first sequence begins with a representation of the Maori people of New Zealand’s beliefs around the Creation. The Call – (or known as a Karanga to Maori people) is an official welcome given by Maori women or a woman in this case. The Maori people believe that “a woman’s voice is a powerful thing…she is the giver of life. Her karanga calls us from the darkness of Te Po (the night) and takes us into Te Ao Marama (the world of light). Her energy unlocks the pulse of life. The karanga is enhanced by ‘moko’ patterns – the spiritually powerful tattoo designs shown as “vibrations of energy” which are etched into the faces and bodies [and souls] of many Maori” as is the mana (prestige and identity) that everyone is born with. The karanga is given by Precious Clark. Her karakia (prayer) is to the chiefs and champions of Aotearoa (NZ) who sound the Pukaea (wooden trumpets) to gather together the people of the nation before extending the call to the rest of the world. The Journey – New Zealand, the nation of Sails as per commentary. Inspired by the ocean voyagers over the centuries who came to New Zealand. “Maori paved the way

Absolutely amazing. What a riveting way to show our fabulous Maori culture. We all need to be very proud of what we have as it is unique and what New Zealand is known by. If there were no Maori, what would people think of when someone says New Zealand? Sheep?

@siroam2012 Yes there are plenty of rumours of where Maori migrated from but they never mention the evidence we have that proves otherwise like kumara and peruperu, which originates from Peru, Sth Americas and then our genealogy and legends (beliefs) and especially the languages are very similar throughout Polynesia. The feathered headgear, ****** and body tattoos and structures etc. How can they contradict the facts – it is plain to see where we came from??

@MissJacklyn1 I believe @siroam2012 is correct on this one but we did travel from Hawaii through the islands dropping off those who could not make the journey any longer. Most of which were our respected tuakana (elders) etc. Evidence of this is in the similarities between the languages, whakapapa (genealogy), beliefs and many other things. There is a well-known proverb about Maori coming from Hawaiki nui Hawaiki roa Hawaiki pamamao – is that what you mean instead of Hawaii, MissJacklyn??

I’m Croatian but I have to say, that you can really be proud to be from NZ! For me, Rugby is by far the best way to do sports. I’m playing Rugby too, but in Croatia there are 200 players or so.. I wish I was born in NZ or SA, so that I could see what Rugby really means to your people.. I mean this opening ceremony is better than that one at the Olympic Games.
RUGBY IS THE GAME OF THE FUTURE!
Intelligent men play Rugby, because you need your brain very hard to make a good play..
